    Each café sets when laptops are welcome and one house rule. You see both before you walk over.

    Fifteen minutes before laptops end, your lock screen counts down and names the next place still open.

Readings fade.

A reading is only as good as its age. Each one is full ink for five minutes, then fades until it’s 40 minutes old, where it stays faint. The ring around it drains at the same pace.

So “Free” from two minutes ago looks certain, and “Free” from half an hour ago looks like what it is: a guess. Nobody walks ten minutes on a rumour.

We don’t guess. Every seat reading comes from someone sitting there.
